Makiko Iwasawa,Pharm.D., Ph.D., BCPS., an associate professor/lecturer in the Division of Drug Information at Kitasato University School of Pharmacy.
Prior to her current position, she was a chief drug information pharmacist in the Pharmacy Department of the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center for two years. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree from Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences, she then went to study and earned her Pharm.D. degree from the University of Southern California and completed her PGY 1 pharmacy practice residency at the University of California, Davis Health System. As such, she has been a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist in the US. Most recently, she earned her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Kindai University, and did her study on the use of antiulcer agents in patients receiving low-dose aspirin.
Her main teaching responsibilities include: lectures on hypertension in a pharmacotherapy course, drug information lectures and lab practices, and precepting fifth- and sixth-year pharmacy students for Special Research Work in a Pharmaceutical Sciences course. Her area of interests includes clinical pharmacy, medication safety, formulary management, and international pharmacy education. Dr. Iwasawa has published multiple original research articles in peer-reviewed journals, and published textbooks about pharmacotherapy and English for pharmacy students and pharmacists.
